On-Road Traction ComparisonĪs both of these tires are mud terrain and they are not made for on road performance still they perform pretty well compared to other mud terrain tires. This tire has proven itself by winning Baja races multiple times during different seasons. Stone ejectors help the tire to have good grip while moving on rocky terrain. It has many deep and wide grooves and its block walls are specially designed to emit the mud from getting stuck into the grooves. It is designed to be able to support heavy loads at low air pressures. The STT Pro’s sidewall offers great resistance against cuts because of its high load capacity capabilities. The Pro features an asymmetric tread pattern with an “open shoulder” design for better handling on muddy or snowy surfaces. The Cooper STT Pro has improved wind noise reduction, making for a quieter riding experience than other mud-terrain tires. Stone ejectors help the tire to maintain grip on rocky surface and emits the stones from getting stuck into the grooves. These wide grooves help the tire to perform well in mud and snow by throwing the mud/snow particles backwards. The shoulders of this tire are highly optimized, they have a lot of spaces in between them along with stone ejectors. It has many small tread blocks placed in between and they are surrounded with wide and deep grooves. Its structure helps it to maintain traction on different surfaces. I never ran all terrain until the last 2 years, and new all terrains aren't that much worst than mud terrains even in the mud, so if you need mud, go big, if not, I feel the ridge grappler could be a good tire, but that 285/75r17 availability is what puts it above a KO2 for me.The Falken Wildpeak MT has excellent performance on all kinds of off-road terrains. Every other "mud" tire is just a mud tire in name compared to a TSL, like nitto muds. That is the ultimate, it is so soft, so grippy, so awesome, that it just pulls truck through unthinkable things. Really there is only one true off-road tire, a super swamper TSL. Goodyears weren't very good against punctures. I was rather surprised by the KO2, I did Fins n things during a hail/ice storm and was quite happy with that tire (as long as not in clay). They were terrible in TN/KY muddy trails, just couldn't get a bit in much.įor reference to other tires, I ran KM2s for 60k and they were the worst tire ever, just terrible in pretty much everything. My friend had the new X3 for about 2k miles. They are about the same in the mud, deep gumbo still needs a lot of wheel spin to clear them. Since we spend so much time getting to trails, that was a surprising plus. I'll be honest, they are the most planted on slick wet high speed roads I have ever used. My STT Pros were very stiff for about 5k miles but now have softened up. ![]() They are neadlessly heavy though and they haven't been much better in the mud than others so I stopped running them. Nitto trails in my opinion are a pretty good tire as you have noticed. Have previously ran BFG KM2s, BFG KO2s, Goodyear MT/Rs, duratrac, Nitto muds, and various Interco TSLs and bogger. I've ran the nitto trail and currently have the Cooper STT Pro.
